What to expect during the awake lipo procedure

SoftSqulpt awake liposuction is performed while you are awake, using local anesthesia and laughing gas to keep you relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure. 

Being awake means you’ll be an active participant in the process, fully aware and able to interact with your surgeon at all times. This dramatically reduces the risk of surgical complications and makes for a more personalized, relaxed experience. 

Here is a step-by-step breakdown of what to expect during your awake lipo procedure: 

Step 1:

We cleanse you with a warm antiseptic solution to kill any bacteria on the skin; a process we repeat throughout the procedure to prevent infection. 

Step 2:

To prepare for making the entry holes, we numb the top of the skin with an air injector. This is a much gentler approach than using a needle. All you’ll feel is a light snapping sensation on the skin. 

Step 3: 

We make tiny and precise entry holes using a hole punch around the size of a pen tip. Each hole is used at different stages of the procedure to either place numbing medication or to remove fat.

Step 4:

Now it’s time to numb the fat, and this is where our SoftSqulpt technology comes in. SoftSqulpt consists of a specialized handpiece and system that uses tiny precision instruments and smooth vibration to gently administer the numbing medication directly into the unwanted fat. You’ll feel a slight pinching sensation and a gentle vibration (like a vibrating massage device only smoother). 

Step 5:

We start the fat removal (liposuction) process. At this point, we switch to a different miniaturized cannula and perform the fat removal using the same gentle vibration. Our safe and gentle approach minimizes trauma, discomfort and bruising. 

Step 6:

Once the fat is removed, the cannula entry points are closed with small sutures. If you’re combining awake lipo with a fat transfer, we process the fat to make sure it is sterile, filtered and concentrated, ready to be transferred.
