What is the FUPA? How it develops and how to get rid of It

by Gabriel Assouline

FUPA

What Is FUPA?

FUPA, which stands for “Fat Upper Pubic Area”, is an accumulation of fat cells in the lower abdominal area, just below the bikini line. This distinctive bulge known as mons pubis, is shaped as an upside-down triangle and extends from the genitals to the top of the pubic hairline. While the exact origins of the term are unknown, it started gaining recognition in the early 2000s. It then became increasingly popular on social media when Beyoncé mentioned it in her 2018 Vogue cover story, sparking reactions from people all over the world.  FUPA can be uncomfortable for women, causing physical discomfort, clothing issues, and impacting self-esteem. Luckily, FUPA is only surplus fat, thus can be effectively removed through various treatments, allowing for improved comfort and confidence.

Causes of FUPA

But what exactly causes a FUPA and who’s more at risk of developing one? Both men and women can struggle with a FUPA, but they are more common amongst women. Here are the most common causes for developing a FUPA:

  • Genetics: Genetic predispositions play a huge role in the development of extra fat in specific areas, and some individuals have a tendency to store fat in the mons pubis.
  • Weight Gain: Adopting a sedentary lifestyle combined with a high-calorie diet is another reason why people may develop a FUPA.
  • Pregnancy: Some women may accumulate excess fat in the pubic area after pregnancy due to weakened abdominal muscles and weight changes.
  • Aging: Our metabolism slows down as we age and our bodies tend to hold on to fat in the stomach area. Hormonal changes due to aging – including menopause in women and a decrease in testosterone levels in men – also explain excess fat in the mons pubis.

Apron Belly vs. FUPA

While the two are often mistaken for one another, an apron belly isn’t a FUPA and vice versa. Both terms are used to define the accumulation of fat but do not refer to the same body parts. An apron belly describes a large, hanging pouch of loose skin or excess fat in the lower section of the abdomen whereas a FUPA refers to a more localized fat deposit in the pubic region.

Concerns and Health Implications of FUPA

In most cases, people are concerned about the physical appearance of a FUPA. They may have body image issues because of it, which can negatively impact their psychological well-being. It can also lower self-esteem and create social anxiety around others. In terms of health implications, a FUPA can also limit everyday physical activities such as bending, as well as create clothing discomfort and cause hygiene issues. Opting for surgery to improve your overall appearance can greatly boost self-esteem, self-image and confidence. How Do You Get Rid of a FUPA?

So, how can you quickly and permanently get rid of a FUPA? Here are some options to consider:

Exercise and Diet to Reduce FUPA

While combining a good exercise routine with a healthy diet can contribute to weight loss, specific areas of the body like the FUPA cannot be specifically targeted. Losing overall body fat with cardio and strength training may help but achieving dramatic results fast will prove extremely challenging. In some cases, FUPA can be due to genetics, which can make it difficult to achieve desired results.

Medical and Surgical Options to Remove FUPA

A squlpt 360 lipo procedure can be an effective, long lasting and safe solution for those who want to fully get rid of the FUPA. Benefits of FUPA Removal

FUPA surgery offers both aesthetic and physical benefits to remove fat from the pelvic area, such as:

  • Improved body contour: Removing all the excess fat and tightening the skin in the pubic region gives the body a nice natural contoured look.
  • Reduction in discomfort : As a FUPA can also limit physical activities and create clothing discomfort, getting rid of it can greatly improve your overall comfort.
  • Improved hygiene : Removing excess tissue makes cleaning easier by removing small crevices.

Elimination of skin conditions: Skin conditions due to fat and excess skin in the pubic region such as rashes, inflammation, or even infections will be a thing of the past with FUPA removal.  <Opportunity for internal linking to after care page – add recovery time post-procedure>
